FREE—- Mobile Data and Voice PLAN!! #freedompop

Remember NetZero? The company that gave you internet access for FREE. I certainly do, while other telephone carriers were charging as much as $50/month for dial up internet, NetZero gave it away for free.

At the time, they generated revenue through a patented advertising model.  It was a revolutionary business model, and as a result the company’s subscriber base grew to 1,000,000 users in just 6 months.  After the dot com crash they eventually started charging, but the name still lives on in my mind as the first company to give us free internet.

Well today the world has gone mobile and a new company is emulating the netzero model for Mobile devices.  Freedompop has launched a new package of user services that includes 500 MBs of 4G data, unlimited texting, and 200 monthly voice minutes.  For an additional $10 you could get unlimited voice!!Sounds a lot like NetZero.  They even have a similar motto “the internet is a right not a privilage”.  We at Smile and Mobile absolutely love this move.  Much like netzero in 1998 this could shake up the industry. Internet costs are now out of control and they dont have to be.  Ofcourse 500Mb is nothing, and you can probably just send emails and check your facebook with that, but its a start and we are not complaining 🙂

We wish Freedompop much success in this endeavour, video reviews to come…………..Stay Mobile 🙂
