African Mobile Market, the next bed of innovation?? Google thinks so.

In a study that was done in 2012, it was projected that 8 of the world’s 10 fastest growing economies can be found in the dark continent.  These countries include; Ethiopia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Congo, Ghana, Zambia and Nigeria.  One of the greatest drivers of growth in Africa has been through the use of mobile technology for commerce.  There are over 188M mobile subscribers in Africa.  Nigeria  Represents the largest share with 95 Million subscribers.  The next two largest mobile markets in the continent are Ghana at 21 million, and the Ivory Coast at 17 Million.

So you can see the opportunities for a mobile economy are immense, and tech savvy African entrepreneurs are very aware of this.

Given all this information, it is not surprise that Google has made a major push to establish itself in countries like Nigeria and Ghana.  With the Google Apps Developer challenge, they have continued to push the popularity of Android, the worlds most popular operating system.

Google understands where the next wave of innovation will be focused, and if Apple new what was good for them, they would jump on that boat before they lose more market share!!

In the next few blogs we will highlight some of the apps making an impact on the continent………………….Stay Mobile
